Why give?
-
IDENTITY
Your donation helps our rangatahi Māori rediscover who they are and where they come from. Every contribution supports kaupapa that build confidence, belonging, and pride in being Māori.
-
EMPOWER
We use sport as our waka — guiding youth toward growth, teamwork, and opportunity. Your support turns games into gateways, creating pathways to tournaments, travel, and self-belief.
-
NURTURE
Your giving helps us nurture mātauranga Māori — from haka and waiata to raranga and tikanga. Together, we’re keeping the heartbeat of our culture strong for generations to come.
FAQs
-
We are both.
TRMKT blends sport and culture to strengthen the identity, confidence, and wellbeing of our rangatahi.
While our pathways include sporting avenues, everything we do is grounded in Te Ao Māori, whakawhanaungatanga, and cultural connection. We train like a sports team, move like a whānau, and grow like a cultural community.
TRMKT isn’t a team - it’s a space where sport and culture work together to uplift our young people.
-
This is a great question!
As a charity, TRMKT works hard to reduce financial pressure for whānau through grants, sponsorships, and community support. However, tours still come with unavoidable expenses such as flights, accommodation, transport, uniforms, kai, and tournament fees.
We cover what we can, but some costs must still be shared by families so we can keep providing high-quality, safe, and culturally strong opportunities for our rangatahi. -
Absolutely not. Our Wānanga, cultural programs, and local development opportunities are open to all rangatahi, regardless of background, culture, or heritage. We welcome anyone who values connection, growth, and Te Ao Māori.
However, for ANZMRL touring teams, players must have direct Māori lineage as this is a requirement set by ANZMRL for eligibility in their Māori-specific tournaments.
This guideline is determined by the tournament organisers—not TRMKT—and we follow it respectfully.Everyone is welcome in our spaces; some competitions simply have cultural eligibility criteria we are required to honour.
-
Not at all. TRMKT is a space for learning, growth, and reconnection. Many of our rangatahi join with little or no prior knowledge of Māori culture, while others may already be deeply connected.
Our Wānanga are designed to meet everyone where they’re at - supporting those who are learning for the first time, those reconnecting with their whakapapa, and those wanting to deepen their understanding.
All we ask is an open mind, respect, kindness to others and a willingness to embrace the journey.
-
Wānanga combine:
High-quality sports training
Māori cultural learning
Leadership development
Team bonding & whakawhanaungatanga
Creative and performing arts sessions
Our Wānanga are a cornerstone of TRMKT and build confidence, identity, and connection.
Do parents need to stay during Wānanga?
Parents are welcome but not required unless otherwise stated.
Is food provided?
What’s a Wānanga without kai, right!
Food is an important part of our manaakitanga, and we aim to make sure our rangatahi are well fed and cared for.Sometimes kai is provided by TRMKT, and other times we may ask whānau to bring a shared plate. All food expectations will be clearly communicated before each Wānanga or event.
-

TRMKT holds Public Liability Insurance, which covers our organisation for incidents relating to our operations and events.
However, Public Liability does not cover individual player injuries, travel issues, or personal belongings.
For this reason, we strongly encourage all families to arrange their own:Travel Insurance
Player accident or sports injury insurance
This ensures each whānau has the level of cover they feel comfortable with during domestic and international tours.
TRMKT will always prioritise safety and wellbeing, but individual insurance is the responsibility of each family.
TRMKT is responsible for creating a safe environment and ensuring all kaimahi meet legal safeguarding requirements. All staff and volunteers hold:
Blue cards
First aid training (where applicable)
